Magonia – May 2015 Book Pick

OwlCrate Book Pick Magonia

This months book was Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley and comes with a signed bookplate. I just started this book and so far I’m really liking it, I’m thinking I might get it on Audible after I read it, from what I’ve read so far I think the audio version will be really good. The publishers summary from Audible is below.

Aza Ray is drowning in thin air.
Since she was a baby, Aza has suffered from a mysterious lung disease that makes it ever harder for her to breathe, to speak – to live.
All the doctors can do is give her drugs and hope they keep her alive. So when Aza catches a glimpse of a ship in the sky, her family chalks it up to a cruel side effect of the medication. But Aza doesn’t think this is a hallucination. She can hear someone on the ship calling her name.
Only her best friend, Jason, listens. Jason, who’s always been there. Jason, for whom she might have more-than-friendly feelings. But before Aza can consider that thrilling idea, something goes terribly wrong. The sickness catches up with her.

Aza is lost to our world.
And found, by another.
Magonia.
Above the clouds, in a land of trading ships, Aza is not the weak and dying thing she was. In Magonia, she can breathe for the first time. Better, she has immense power. And she can use it to change the world.
As she navigates her new life, Aza discovers that war is coming. Magonia and Earth are on the cusp of a reckoning. In Aza’s hands lies the whole of humanity – including the boy who loves her. Where do her loyalties lie?

Sounds really interesting right?

Along with the book was this exclusive bookmark. It’s a really beautiful bookmark matching the book cover which incidentally is also very beautiful.

Thinking Putty

Heat Sensitive Thinking Putty

I have a soft spot for things that change colour or glow in the dark. If you give me something that does either of those chances are very high that I’m going to like it! My son and I had a great time playing with this putty, brought back fun memories.

GeekyTat Temporary Tattoos and Obvious State Notebook

Love this cute notebook from Obvious State. They have a pretty awesome site where they sell very nice bookish things.
Personally I don’t wear temp. tattoos but I’m saving the tattoos to decorate a picture frame that i’m going to put a dictionary print in. I think it’ll look cute! The ones in the box are Alice in Wonderland themed you can find GeekTat here

I really love the Owlcrate Subscription box, it’s well curated and I’ve always enjoyed the book and the extra items that come along with it. Spots fill up super super fast for this box so I’d recommend signing up to receive notification when spots open if this box interests you.
