Spice Blends: Tandoori Spices , Punjabi Garam Masala , Rose & Chai Spices
The core spice base of one of North India’s most popular tandoori-style dishes, this aromatic blend of a dozen spices adds rich, complex character to dishes. Use this fragrant and deep golden spice blend to marinate chicken, meat, seafood or vegetables in a yogurt spice mixture, then char over high heat for a juicy interior and crispy, spicy exterior
PUNJABI GARAM MASALA
Arguably among the most famous of Punjabi spice blends, there are literally thousands of ways to prepare this spice mixture- ours is toasted and freshly ground using a traditional Punjabi family recipe. Use this spice blend to add complex flavor and heat to Punjabi chicken tikka masala, curries, braised vegetables or grilled kabobs.
ROSE & CHAI SPICES
Chai spices, which have permeated cultures for over 5,000 years, remains a staple of Punjab cuisine and is typically served in hot milky tea following a main meal. We’ve included organic dried rose petals to the traditional chai spices of green cardamom, peppercorns, fennel & cloves (among other spices) for a crumbly, melt in your mouth Indian nankhatai cookie
Recipes: Punjabi Chicken Tikka Masala & Chai & Rose Nankatai Cookies
These were the two recipes we got this month. The spice mixes for the Chicken Tikka serves 8-10 people. I’ll hopefully get a few uses from these spices since it’s just really 2 of us eating. Chicken Tikka happens to be one of my husbands favourite dishes, so I’m pretty excited to try this out soon. I’ll definitely post my results. I don’t really like shortbread so I’m not sure yet what I’ll use the Rose & Chai Spices for I’m thinking maybe pancakes and flavouring some maple syrup. I’ll see what inspiration I can gather from the RawSpiceBar Blog.
If you haven’t checked them out yet. I highly recommend checking out RawSpiceBar for $6 a month it’s a great way to learn about different cuisines and try your hand at making something different. Looking forward to what March brings.
